ODSC East 2023 will as inclusive as we have demonstrated before — from In-person sessions to digital experiences available for everyone, from anywhere. Get ready for the successful Hybrid ODSC Conference. Combining small immersive in-person experiences with innovative and insightful digital ones — it’s going to be one fantastic event to reconnect, all done with your safety in mind.
Please review the following guidelines on what to expect at ODSC East 2023.
In-Person and Virtual
In-Person
COVID Precautions: currently there are no mask or vaccination mandates in Boston, MA. That may change and we encourage the attendees to take these steps to the level that they are comfortable.
Limited Attendance
To accommodate social distancing, our in-person event will be limited to a maximum of 850 training and other attendees per day. If you wish to attend in person, we recommend you purchase your place early as passes will be limited.
Safety First
COVID Precautions: currently there are no mask or vaccination mandates in Boston, MA. That may change and we encourage the attendees to take these steps to the level that they are comfortable. In addition, if you are experiencing any of the symptoms identified in the symptoms section below you should not attend in person. We encourage those who cannot meet this criterion to consider our Virtual attendance. Additional precautions are listed in the In-Person SAFETY MEASURES section below.

if you wish to switch to a virtual pass at any time, we will gladly accommodate your request. Any price difference will be refunded. Please email info@odsc.com

Switching to In-Person
if you wish to switch your virtual pass at any time to in-person, we will gladly accommodate your request subject to availability. Additionally, in-person passes are limited by the type of pass. Depending on pass type, you may be issued a refund or may need to pay the additional price difference of a chosen pass. Please email info@odsc.com
In-Person Safety Measures
To minimize the risk to our attendees, speakers, and staff, we will be implementing the following safety measures during the conference.
- Cleaning requirements: The venue has extensive cleaning protocols in place.
- Lunch and Networking Areas: Everyone is recommended to wear a mask in common areas unless seated at the table or while drinking/eating.
- Disinfecting stations: Disinfecting stations (either hand-washing or hand-sanitizing stations) will be available throughout the venue – at the entrance and exit points, as well as at tables and common areas. You will also be given a small personal hand sanitizer and face masks at the Registration desk.
- Seating: ODSC will have seating arranged based on all current restrictions. Please note that all sessions are first come first served, and no extra seating will be available. You will not be able to sit on the floor or stand at the back.
- All attendees will be recommended to wear a mask in common areas.
Symptoms
We are continually reviewing guidelines for safety measures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as federal, state, and local guidelines. In the event of changes to these guidelines, ODSC will adapt event plans accordingly and share any updates with you.
Individuals (including staff, speakers, and attendees) should not attend an in-person event if they—or anyone in their household—are displaying any of the following symptoms:
- Fever (100.4F or higher)
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Diarrhea
- Chills
- Repeated shaking with chills
- Muscle pain
- Headache
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell
If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms you will be asked to leave the venue. However, you will still have access to all virtual content and conference recordings.

Code of conduct for Open Data Science Conference (referred as ODSC)
This code of conduct is based on the Citizen Code of Conduct. By attending an ODSC conference, meetup, Workshop, Boot camp or any other event including as a speaker, sponsor, volunteer, or attendee, you agree to abide by this code of conduct, and cooperate with organizers who enforce it.
Short version
“ODSC is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any venue, including talks. Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of the event organizers.”
To ensure the health and safety of our attendees, instructors, and staff, venue staff will enforce safety measures as required by local, state, federal, and CDC guidelines. Attendees who fail to follow venue staff safety recommendations as specified in the “What to Expect” guide will be required to leave the venue. No refunds will be issued.

Unacceptable Behavior
The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:
- Violence, threats of violence, or violent language directed against another person.
- Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
- Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.
- Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information (“doxing”).
- Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability.
- Inappropriate photography or recording.
- Inappropriate physical contact; you should have someone’s consent before touching them.
- Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes sexualized comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcomed sexual advances.
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in-person).
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
- Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations.
- No weapons of any kind, alcohol, or drugs are allowed at ODSC venues
-If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately. Conference staff can be identified as they’ll be wearing branded t-shirts.
-Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.
-We expect participants to follow these rules at conference and workshop venues and conference-related social events.
