How to Ace the Data Science Interview by Mark Meloon, PhD, ServiceNow
While many people fear interviews, you must remember you wouldn’t have been granted one unless they were interested in you. Sadly, most candidates spend considerable time (and money!) learning data science, painstakingly crafting their resume (and LinkedIn profile), and work long hours on personal projects only to do little to no preparation for interviews! But if you don’t know how to prepare, what does one do?
In this talk, you will learn what to do before, during, and after an interview—both phone and in-person—to clearly stand out from the other applicants and be recognized as a valuable addition to their team. The speaker is a well-known expert in helping job seekers land their first data science job, not only interviewing on behalf of his company but also holding mock data science interviews. He knows first-hand what a job seeker must do in order to be seen as a “must have” new hire.
At the end of this session, you will have step-by-step instructions on how to ace interviews and get the job of your dreams!

Presence – how to become recognized as a peer by other data scientists and a good candidate by recruiters and hiring managers
Listeners of this session will walk away knowing that they can become a successful data scientist, no matter their background. The market demand is there and the resources are available for them as long as they just take the initiative.

Beyond Individual Contribution: How to Lead Data Science Teams by Juan Manuel Contreras, PhD, Even
Despite the increasing number of data scientists who are asked to take on leadership roles, there are still few resources on how to manage data scientists. There is also scant practical advice on how to serve as head of a data science practice: how to set a vision and craft a strategy for an organization to use data science. In this talk, I will describe my experience as a data science leader at a political party and at a fintech startup, share lessons learned from these experiences, and offer a framework for how new data science leaders can better transition to both managing data scientists and heading a data science practice.
