Help us ensure everyone has a pleasant conference experience.

Code of conduct for Open Data Science Conference (referred as ODSC)

This code of conduct is based on the Citizen Code of Conduct. By attending an ODSC conference, meetup, Workshop, Boot camp or any other event including as a speaker, sponsor, volunteer, or attendee, you agree to abide by this code of conduct, and cooperate with organizers who enforce it.

Short version

“ODSC is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any venue, including talks. Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of the event organizers.”

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:

  • Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person.
  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
  • Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.
  • Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information (“doxing”).
  • Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability.
  • Inappropriate photography or recording.
  • Inappropriate physical contact; you should have someone’s consent before touching them.
  • Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes, sexualized comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcomed sexual advances.
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person).
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
  • Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations.
  • No weapons of any kind, alcohol, or drugs are allowed at ODSC venues

-If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately. Conference staff can be identified as they’ll be wearing branded t-shirts.

-Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.

-We expect participants to follow these rules at conference and workshop venues and conference-related social events.

Event Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

In summary: registrant contact information is NOT shared with third parties without your consent. Registrant information is primarily used to verify registration and notify you of similar events held by ODSC in future. We may share your contact information with sponsors but only with your consent upon registering.

Collection of Information
Information You Provide to Us

We collect information you provide directly to us. For example, we collect information when you register for an event, fill out a form or otherwise communicate with us. The types of information we may collect include your email address, mail address and other contact or identifying information in order to register for our events. Use of Information

We use information about you for various purposes, including to:

  • Provide, maintain and improve our Services;
  • Provide and deliver the products and services you request, process transactions, and to send you related information, including confirmations and invoices;
  • Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts and support and administrative messages;
  • Respond to your comments, questions and requests and provide customer service.

By accessing and using the Services, you consent to the processing and transfer of your information in and to the United States and other countries.

Sharing of Information

We do not share or sell your information to vendors or third parties. However for certain events you register for we do ask for your consent to share your contact information with sponsors who may wish to contact you regarding special promotions or discounts. Upon registering you will have the ability to opt out of such communications. You will have the opportunity to “opt-out” by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in the e-mail you receive.

Promotional Communications

We will periodically send you free newsletters and e-mails that directly promote our conferences, events and gatherings. When you receive newsletters or promotional communications from us, you may indicate a preference to stop receiving further communications from us – you will have the opportunity to “opt-out” by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in the e-mail you receive. Despite your indicated e-mail preferences, we may send you notices of any updates to our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy.

Sensitive Personal Information

ODSC Does not directly collect sensitive information such as credit card details or Social Security number. All registrations and payments are exclusively been done on EventBrite platform.

As you browse ODSC Websites (which includes Bostondatafest.com) online ad networks we work with may place anonymous cookies on your computer, and use similar technologies, in order to understand your interests based on your (anonymous) online activities, and thus to tailor more relevant ads to you. Ticket Purchase Terms and conditions

For attendees convenience the following is a copy of our  mandatory terms and conditions question that is accepted in EventBrite to purchase a pass and titled:  “Please agree to the following Terms and Conditions in order to register for this event.”

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

PLEASE BE ADVISED that the purchase and/or use of a Ticket to attend/participate in any Open Data Science Event (“Event”) shall constitute unconditional acceptance by You, the Ticket holder, to be bound by any and all of the terms and conditions contained within this Ticket agreement (“Agreement”). This Agreement is between You and Open Data Science Conference, LLC (“ODSC”) to attend all or part of the Event.

Subject to the limitations of this Agreement, ODSC reserves the right to change, modify, or alter any aspect of the Event (including, without limitation, the attendance of any particular Presenter, Exhibitor, Partner, and/or Attendee). ODSC further makes no representations or warranties with respect to the number or type of Presenters, Exhibitors, Partners, and/or Attendees at any particular Event. You understand that the Presenters, Exhibitors and/or Partners for the Event may be changed by ODSC without prior notice and that such occurrence shall not, under any circumstances, entitle You, the Ticket holder, to any claim for a refund of Your Ticket; nor shall such change of lineup entitle You, the Ticket holder, to any other form of damages or compensation by ODSC.

Except as explicitly otherwise provided herein, You unconditionally understand that all Ticket sales are final, there will be no Ticket refunds and/or Ticket exchanges. No refunds will be granted for any reason within 30 days of the first day of the Event. Transfer requests for the same event can be granted up to 7 days prior to the Event. Refunds within 60 days of the first day of the Event will be granted minus a 50% event administration fee.

If your ticket was already transferred to another event, person, or any other transfer were made, you can not apply for a full or partial refund of the original ticket.

If your ticket was transferred to a future in-person conference you may substitute it for any of our virtual conferences. Otherwise, the ticket is transferable to an in-person conference up to 3 years from its issue date.   No refunds would be given if the ticket(s) was already transferred from its original purchased conference. 

If the Event is canceled, changed, or rescheduled in whole, or in part, due to Force Majeure circumstances (as defined below), You will not be entitled to a full or partial refund of Your purchased Ticket.

Force Majeure circumstances are defined to include circumstances (natural Events, acts of God and /or political Events) that are: (i) beyond the control of ODSC,  (ii) unforeseen at the time of the purchase of Your Ticket, and (iii) which, if either occurring before or during the Event, or becoming foreseeable or predicted to occur at or within close proximity in time before the Event, would render ODSC’s performance under this Agreement to be impossible, illegal, inadvisable, unsafe, and / or commercially impracticable. Such Force Majeure circumstances, which, if occurring, excuse ODSC from the performance of their duties under this Ticket Agreement / Ticket purchase, and may include, but are not limited to the following: acts of God (including but not limited to fire, explosion, earthquake, drought, flood, hurricane, tornado, or severe adverse weather condition, such as severe snowstorm  which would make it impossible, unsafe, unadvisable, or commercially impracticable for ODSC to perform under this contract / put on Event); acts of terrorism or threats of terrorism; acts of, or credible threats of, the following occurrences: riot, commotion, strikes, lockouts, civil unrest / civil disorder, mass shooting, threat of armed gunman or violence, or similar form of public unrest / disorder, government imposed curfews or lockdowns, epidemics or feared epidemic of a public health hazard or outbreak of disease (such as, but not limited to, SARS, tuberculosis, Ebola, or other such serious illness, as classified by the CDC), damage, construction, governmental order or court order, shutdown or regulation, or renovation to the display site, government regulation, public catastrophe, or any related occurrence beyond the parties’ control. 

For safety reasons, ODSC further reserves the right, without any prior notice or compensation to You, to take the following actions: postpone, cancel, interrupt or stop the Event; provisionally keep visitors on the Event site at the end of the Event; totally or partially vacate the Event site; and deny access to the Event site regardless of the possession of a valid entry Ticket.

In the Event, however, that ODSC cancels the Event for any reason other than the Force Majeure circumstances set forth in the above paragraph, then ODSC will refund the entire amount of the Ticket purchase (minus reasonable fees) if requested at least 30 days prior to the start of the Event. If within 30 days of the Event, ODSC may (but will not be required to) offer the option to transfer the Ticket to attend a different ODSC Event. (In such a case, You would be responsible for the difference in the Ticket price, if higher.) 

By agreeing to these terms and conditions, You:

– Authorize ODSC to email you with event-related and other valuable content and offers. You may opt-out of promotional and/or non-event communications at any time. Privacy Policy (https://odsc.com/privacy-policy)

– Authorize ODSC to share Your contact information (full name, email address, job title, company, location, work email (if provided), and areas of interest) with Event Partners unless You choose to opt-out during the registration process. (No personal information will be shared with any third parties.) Privacy Policy (https://odsc.com/privacy-policy)

– Authorize ODSC to share Your contact information with Partners that you have allowed to scan your badge at the event, regardless of any opt-out preference you may have submitted during the registration process. The contact information will be used by said Partners to follow up on such interactions and is governed by each Partner’s Privacy Policy. – Authorize the use of any and all photographs, video and/or audio taken during the Event that (in which You are visible) to be utilized in future marketing material by ODSC.

– Consent to abide by the ODSC Code of Conduct. ODSC reserves the right to expel and/or void the Ticket of any attendee or participant who violates the Code of Conduct. (https://odsc.com/code-of-conduct)
