Artificial Intelligence – a journey to surpass the Turing test


Turing test is a proposed test for intelligence in a computer system. It is a test of a machine to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to or indistinguishable from that of a human. I will be discussing about my unconventional journey in Artificial Intelligence and my quest to build an android that can surpass the Turing Test (which is still ongoing).

It started with a research work in a Harvard Medical School Professor, Dr. Common’s Lab and was subsequently supported by learning from an MIT Post-Doc and an expert in computational Mathematics, Alex Coventry. The learning was enhanced by ODSC, Re.Work and Brandon Rohrer (Facebooks)’s blogs. Furthermore, the journey was supplemented by lot of online educational tutorials and courses.

I will be discussing my findings that justify Artificial Intelligence as an interdisciplinary approach. AI is a merger of Computational Neuroscience and Mathematics. It also borrows core concepts from Real Analysis and Logic which is a merger of Mathematical Philosophy. Additionally, I will be talking about humanoids across the globe and how close we are to build what popular media like “Black Mirror” and “Westworld” show.

My goal is to relay the message that AI is NOT taking away jobs but actually creating more. It is merely a tool that can make our lives easier and help us focus on more important things!


Anisha is a Machine Learning and an Artificial Intelligence researcher. Currently, she is working for Dr. Commons, Harvard Medical School, on his patent ""Intelligent Systems Based on Hierarchically Stacked Neural Networks"". She is also a research scientist and a project manager at Core Complexity Assessments.

Anisha also runs the Machine Learning Society - Boston Chapter. She organizes weekly Artificial Intelligence Study sessions where she works with software engineers from Fortune 500 companies, academics and emerging data scientists to solve Kaggle problems. Her goal is to facilitate their transition to a career in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Industry.
Additionally, Anisha has partnered with Cambridge Innovation Center and WeWork to arrange multiple events like “AI Movie Night followed by a conversation with a mathematician, biologist, physicist, computational neuroscientist, philosopher or psychologist”, “Hiking with data scientists” etc.

Anisha’s goal is to use her understanding of human behavior, computational mathematics and her liberal arts background to build a humanoid that can emulate human intelligence. She is determined to create more jobs and use AI for the betterment of mankind. She is working towards building a global AI community by bridging the gap between resources (like ODSC, blogs, e-tutorials, LinkedIn, physical meetups) and passionate learners.

Aside from Artificial Intelligence, Anisha is a Clinton Global Initiative Fellow and is working towards establishing proper healthcare service and mitigating economic disparity in Nepal. She also intends to use her community service skills to mentor high school students interested in Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics and is an active mentor for MetroHacks. She loves learning about Blockchain, Androids, Semiconductors, Anthropology and Social Psychology.

Previously, she has worked as an Investment Banker at Deutsche Bank and an associate at GQR-Global Markets in the Systematic and Electronic trading team. Anisha was also awarded a Howard Hughes Medical Fellowship during her freshman year in college to conduct a research in Biophysics and Computational Chemistry.
