Towards Identity Resolution: The Challenge of Name Matching
Towards Identity Resolution: The Challenge of Name Matching

Abstract:

Comparing two pieces of text and assessing if they are the same is straightforward. However, imagine the two pieces of text are names and we want to determine if they refer to the same person. Perhaps one name includes a middle name, they are written in different scripts and there are misspellings. Determining that the names match the same identity now becomes a harder challenge. Addressing this challenge is central to the fields of sanctions compliance and anti-money laundering. This talk will describe ways to meet this challenge.
